Recycling in Action: Giving Old Mattresses a New Life

At KTS Recycling we are always looking for ways to reduce waste and create something valuable from the materials we process every day. A great example of this is the work now happening with foam mattresses delivered to us from Advantage Recycling.

Our team carefully strips down each mattress, removing the fabric covers and separating out the foam. Instead of being sent to landfill, this foam is delivered to our recycling partner Air Step. From there, it is given a whole new purpose.

Partnering with Air Step to Create Carpet Underlay

The foam is ground down, mixed with binder and molded into new material. After being peeled, laminated and rolled, the finished product is ready to be distributed as carpet underlay. What once was a bulky waste item destined for disposal has now been transformed into something useful that will go back into homes and businesses.

Why Foam Recycling Matters for the Circular Economy

This process is a perfect example of the circular economy in action. With the help of our partners and the hard work of our team, we are able to turn waste into a resource, keeping valuable materials out of landfill and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Take a look at the photos below to see the mattress to carpet underlay journey step-by-step.
